So in a few weeks I will be taking a trip to Lima, Peru for the first time and I will be sharing my adventures of the trip with all you wonderful people!
To start off with I will share some of the things I am doing to prepare and hopefully it will give you all an idea of what it takes to travel there. I will be updating this post with new information as I lead up to the trip.
Two way plane tickets with travel insurance cost about $700 USD
A place to stay for a couple weeks cost about $900 USD
I am budgeting food and such to be about $200USD, this does not include things such as souvenirs, but does include things like day trips and movies.
I have been outside the country a number of times and so my shots are fairly up to date, but for Lima the CDC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines. IF you are going to Cusco (the city) and want to hike the Incan Trail, including Machu Picchu, this is all you need as well. There are areas of the country that contain mosquitoes with malaria, and there are jungle regions with yellow fever as well. For these regions you will need to check to see if you can get inoculations to help deal with those ailments.. Keep in mind that I am not a medical professional and you should always check with one before traveling abroad.
I made sure I had a regular doctors check up and eye exam.
And I have been reading up on the history and culture of Peru and learning Spanish, as it is the most common language in Peru (but not the only official language, such as Quechua).
I plan on checking out the beautiful beaches, the zoo, the nightlife, and more!
