My First Trip to China

Chinese Hero

I first went to China in 2010 and stayed in Shanghai with the goal of learning some culture and some of the language. When I left, I spoke very little Chinese even though I had taken a year long introductory class at University. I could say hello, thank you, and ask for a few food items, but I could not use it to get by.  I used a visa service company to get my tourist visa (and I used one again on my second trip) as it is the easiest and fastest way to get a visa.  The company I used is called Oasis China Visa (www.oasischinavisa.com), and they got the job done at a reasonable price, but keep in mind I used them seven years ago, so I am unsure of how they hold up today. The Physics of Superheroes Review

The Physics of Superheroes is a book by James Kakalios that goes over the physics behinds some of the powers of various super heroes such as Spiderman, Superman, or the Flash.  The book covers a decent amount of basic physics and can be used to learn some basic principles.  No prior science or comic book background is required, you can just pick the book up and start reading.

(Initial) Review of Dark Energy: Theory and Observations

I want to talk about the first (and as of this post only) textbook on Dark Energy I have used.  As of this post I have not gone through the book but I have read enough to get an idea of how it is.  There is another Dark Energy book I recently discovered that I want to check out, but that will need to wait for another day.  I am not getting paid to write this review, these are my own thoughts.

Dark Energy: Theory and Observations was published in 2010, and was written by Luca Amendola and Shinji Tsujikawa.  A lot has happened in the realm of Dark Energy research since then, but the basics have stayed the same.  This means that much of the book is still useful and you will learn some good tips and tricks throughout, even if some of the theories have been disproved (plus it is always fun and useful to play around with what ifs). The Typhoid Vaccine

When traveling to many parts of the world you will need to take a whole array of vaccinations. One of them is the Typhoid vaccine. There are two methods that were available to me, an injection that they say lasts for two years, and a series of pills that lasts for five years. I have only taken the pills so this post will focus on that.

There are four pills that are refrigerated that you take every other day for eight days. Continue reading “The Typhoid Vaccine”
